Photobiomodulation

Red light + near-infrared

A new way to care for your skin and support cellular function from within.

Photobiomodulation uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to interact with tissues and trigger biological responses related to cellular energy, recovery and skin quality.

At Clínica Valorian we incorporate it within personalised medical protocols, both as a standalone treatment and combined with biostimulation strategies and aesthetic medicine.

The foundation

Light can also interact with your cells

Certain wavelengths of red and near-infrared light can penetrate tissues and trigger photobiological responses.

Mitochondria are the structures responsible for much of our cells' energy production.

Photobiomodulation is studied for its ability to modulate different processes related to mitochondrial function, cell signalling, nitric oxide and the tissue response.

We present these mechanisms as the biological foundation of photobiomodulation, not as a guarantee of a clinical result. We do not claim that the treatment «repairs mitochondria», necessarily increases ATP, slows ageing or raises melatonin.

Combined programmes

01

Photobiomodulation + Polynucleotides

A programme geared towards skin quality, biostimulation and a progressive improvement in the skin's appearance.

02

Photobiomodulation + Skinboosters

An approach combining injectable hydration with a light programme to support the overall quality of the skin.

03

Photobiomodulation + Mesotherapy

A sequential programme associating injectable treatments and photobiomodulation sessions between procedures.

04

Photobiomodulation + Skin-regeneration protocols

The option to integrate it into programmes combining different medical techniques, when indicated.

Not all treatments are performed on the same day. The sequence and the intervals are defined medically to respect tissue recovery and the characteristics of each procedure.

A single treatment can be interesting. A well-designed programme changes the approach.

Beyond the skin

Full-body photobiomodulation

Our installation allows extended full-body exposure to red and near-infrared light.

We incorporate it within personalised programmes focused on wellbeing, physical recovery, cellular function, health and lifestyle, and integrative medicine.

  • Cellular function
  • Health and lifestyle
  • Integrative medicine

A vision that does not separate the skin from the rest of the body.

At Clínica Valorian, skin, nutrition, metabolism, hormones, physical activity, sleep and healthy ageing are considered together when the clinical situation warrants it.

We do not present photobiomodulation as a proven treatment for diabetes, insulin resistance, ageing, a mitochondrial disease or a systemic condition.

Frequently asked questions

What is photobiomodulation?

It is the use of specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to interact with tissues and stimulate biological responses related to cellular energy, recovery and skin quality. It is applied within a medical protocol.

What is the difference between red light and near-infrared?

Red light (about 630–670 nm) acts more superficially and is mainly associated with the skin; near-infrared (about 810–850 nm) penetrates deeper into tissues. Many protocols combine both.

How many sessions do I need?

It depends on your objective and the medical protocol. There is no single number: it is defined after an individual assessment. Some skin programmes involve several sessions per week over a few weeks.

Is a single session or a programme of several sessions better?

It depends on the objective. A single session can be integrated occasionally into certain treatments, but many photobiomodulation protocols are designed as programmes of several sessions in order to maintain regular, reproducible exposure. After an initial phase, some patients may continue with maintenance sessions. The schedule is established individually.

How long does a session last?

The duration depends on the objective, the treated surface and the parameters used. In large-surface or full-body protocols, a session is usually relatively short and is set according to the selected light dose. The goal is not «more time», but adequate, reproducible exposure.

Is it painful?

No. It is a non-invasive and generally comfortable procedure. The light should not cause pain; depending on the equipment and parameters used, a slight sensation of warmth may be felt.

Do I need recovery time?

Photobiomodulation itself does not require its own recovery time. When combined with injectable treatments, the timings depend on those procedures.

Can I combine it with mesotherapy?

Yes, it can be integrated within a sequential programme. The sequence and the intervals are defined medically.

Can I combine it with polynucleotides?

Yes, within a programme geared towards skin quality and biostimulation, according to medical indication.

Can I combine it with skinboosters?

Yes, as part of a programme that supports the overall quality of the skin, always under medical judgement.

When can I have photobiomodulation after an injectable treatment?

The interval is indicated by the physician according to the procedure performed, to respect tissue recovery. Not all treatments are performed on the same day.

Is photobiomodulation only for the skin?

No. The skin is one of its best-known applications, but photobiomodulation can also be used over large body surfaces and integrated into recovery, wellbeing and body-care programmes. Red and near-infrared light interact with tissues at different depths, so the protocol is selected according to the intended objective.

Can it be combined with Jordi Shape, drainage or other body treatments?

Yes. In certain patients we can integrate photobiomodulation with body treatments such as Jordi Shape or drainage techniques within a single strategy. While the body treatment is being performed, a large surface of skin can remain simultaneously exposed to red and near-infrared light (RED + NIR). This makes it possible to integrate two complementary approaches within the same session: the selected body treatment and photobiomodulation. The combination is individualised according to each patient's objectives and characteristics and does not imply that all treatments must be carried out together.

What is Valorian Body Recovery?

Body Recovery is a Clínica Valorian protocol that integrates certain body treatments —such as Jordi Shape or drainage techniques— with large-surface RED + NIR photobiomodulation. The aim is to turn the body session into a more complete experience, combining specific work on the tissues with non-invasive light exposure within a personalised protocol. The choice of treatment, the photobiomodulation parameters, the frequency and the number of sessions are adapted individually.

What is the difference between a localised session and a full-body session?

A localised session concentrates the exposure on a specific area. In large-surface protocols, a much larger part of the body is exposed simultaneously using professional panels, making it possible to work homogeneously over a wide body surface. The choice depends on the treatment objective and the established protocol.

Can it be part of an integrative or metabolic medicine programme?

Yes. When indicated, photobiomodulation can be incorporated as a complementary tool within a broader programme that considers nutrition, physical activity, rest, body composition, recovery and other aspects of health. It does not replace these interventions or the necessary medical treatments. Its use is integrated within an individualised strategy according to each patient's objectives and characteristics.

What is the relationship between red light and mitochondria?

Mitochondria are involved in much of cellular energy production. Photobiomodulation is studied for its ability to modulate processes related to mitochondrial function and cell signalling; this is presented as a biological foundation, not as a guarantee of a result.

Are protective goggles used?

Yes. Appropriate eye protection is used during the session.

Your skin doesn't need one more treatment. It needs a strategy.

And when the objective goes beyond the skin, so can the strategy.

At Clínica Valorian we can integrate photobiomodulation, biostimulation, aesthetic medicine and certain body treatments within personalised programmes according to your skin, your objectives and your progress.
