PCOS and insulin: a vital connection
Video in Spanish · subtitles available
When we think about polycystic ovary syndrome, we think about the ovaries. But in many women, insulin is also at the center of the problem. I explain this connection to you in the video.
We tend to associate polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) exclusively with the ovaries, but in many women there is also a metabolic component. In this video I explain how insulin resistance can promote greater androgen production and fuel a kind of cycle that contributes to the manifestations of PCOS. We discuss why looking at the ovaries alone is not enough, why having PCOS does not always imply insulin resistance, and why the approach — diet, exercise, body composition, and medical treatment — must be individualised.
